As you are reading this, your membership is probably expired ….
Remember that all memberships now run from April 1st to the following March 31st. So it is very likely that you need to renew your membership now. Membership is only $10 and greatly supports the organization, please consider renewing soon.
As a bonus, the chapter is in the beginning stages of planning a fun event and dinner at the end of the summer (in August) to celebrate our 35th year as a chapter (and of IFGS too). All members who renew their membership by April 30th will have the opportunity to attend this celebration for free! Expect more surprises for thoe who renew now …
To renew your membership (or to become a member), please contact the chapter Treasurer, Sheryl Vanwey at treasury.chair @ dbifgs.org.
Board Seat Vacancy
Canon Alexander has tendered his resignation from the D/B Board. With his departure, the Board has a vacancy that needs to be filled. If you are interested in serving on the chapter Board and helping to shape the direction of the chapter, please submit your name for consideration to board @ dbifgs.org no later than April 30th.
Candidates must be at least 18 years of age and a member in good standing (so get your membership in too!) and have a basic understanding of how the chapter operates. Board members must attend a monthly meeting and be willing to be involved in numerous email conversations during the month. The person filling the seat will serve the remainder of the vacated term, which last through September of 2017.
This is an exciting addition for the chapter. The Board has responded to several member requests to allow a pre-paid account for them. This would allow a member to make a one-time payment, for instance, at the beginning of the gaming season that will cover their events for the entire summer. This was requested by several of our younger members who have indicated that this is an easier option for them. And no worries, if there are any unused funds that a member wishes returned to them, they can request a refund of their remaining account at any time. Money in this account can be used for any IFGS purchase (i.e., any purchase made from the D/B chapter handled by the chapter Treasurer). So that includes game fees, membership costs, and rulebooks. To set up an account, please contact the chapter Treasurer, Sheryl Vanwey at treasury.chair @ dbifgs.org.
Upcoming Games The summer season is nearly upon us and we are gearing up for games! You will see shortly an announcement for a fun, short game called Kung Fool; to be run in May. This is a great little game that will help get your IFGS mind back into gear. Player spots are limited, so if you are interested in participating please contact the Game Producer at bret_halford @ msn.com.
And following it by just a few weeks will be Lands of Light. This highly popular game was written by Jonathan Wisner in 2012 and is being produced by first time producer. Lisa Manglass, this time. It is a wonderful game and Lisa is doing a great job of getting it ready. Again, player spots are already going fast, so if you are interested please contact her ASAP at manglass @ gmail.com.
July has Pipe Dreams; and August holds the Anniversary celebration and Explorations. It is shaping up to be a summer of fun games!
Land of Light will be running Sunday, June 5th. However, on Saturday, June 4th, the chapter has reserved a campground at Pickle Gulch. So plan to come up on Saturday, beginning at 1:00PM, for an afternoon of fun and relaxation. There will be hamburgers and hot dogs (and other stuff) to eat, activities during the afternoon, and a good time that evening around a campfire. Plan to camp overnight and wake up the next morning already at game site! If you are interested, please RSVP to board @ dbifgs.org so that we know how much food (and camping space) to plan for …
We have several openings within the chapter if you are interested in getting more involved and learning more about how the chapter operates. Each year, the Board appoints committee chairs and encourages members to join these committees in order to get a better understanding of how things work for the chapter. If this sounds interesting to you, please contact the Board at board @ dbifgs.org and let us know your interests; we will find a place that you will be comfortable in and enjoy!
Okay, I know it is only April … but if you are thinking about writing a game, now is the time to get started! The new deadline for large games is November 1st of each prior year … scary to think that is already just over 6 months away. Starting with the 2017 games, they will be under the new Insulated Worlds policy as well … giving writers a lot of options … exciting times if you are writing! If you need some help getting started, please contact the Sanctioning Committee at sanctioning.chair @ dbifgs.org or the Board at board @ dbifgs.org.
